A Tribute to Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers

On November 13, 2022, drummer John Ramsay appeared with saxophonist Bill Pierce in A Tribute to Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, presented by Arlington Jazz at Robbins Memorial Town Hall in Arlington, Massachusetts. The program brought together two former Jazz Messengers for an evening honoring the enduring legacy, repertory, and spirit of Art Blakey’s legendary band.
Ramsay and Pierce were joined by Greg Hopkins on trumpet, Dan Fox on trombone, Consuelo Candelaria on piano, and Greg Ryan on bass, with the Arlington High School Jazz Band, led by Tino D’Agostino, opening the concert. The event was presented as a celebration of Blakey’s music through the voices of musicians directly connected to the Jazz Messengers tradition.
